Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there an external LED Indicator?
A: Waves will have an external indicator, but the user will be able to control whether or not it's in use.
Q: Is the camera always recording? Is everything saved?
A: The camera is on while the device is on, but only the moments the user chooses to record/clip are saved.
Q: Is there an AI assistant? Are these "Smart Glasses"?
A: No, smart glasses are cringe. This product is focused on content creation and streaming.
Q: Will there be prescription support?
A: We are working hard to find a prescription partner to craft prescription lenses for these models. Those who reserve will be notified when full-price pre-orders go live where they can specify their prescription. When prescriptions become available you will be notified before your product ships and they will be an additional cost. Alternatively, your local optician may be able to craft or source prescription lenses to insert into the frames.
Q: Will there be sizing options for the frames?
A: Sizing options are part of the plan. Those who reserve will be notified when full-price pre-orders go live of sizing options and will be able to choose a size that fits them best.
Q: What is battery life like?
A: We are currently estimating 90 mins of battery life per battery pack. You can hot swap the batteries while continuing to film/stream and charge the swapped battery in the glasses case. They should charge to full capacity before needing them again. This is what allows you to wear/use Waves all day.
Q: What is the Camera Quality?
A: We are aiming for max recording resolution at 3K in a 4:3 aspect ratio (16:9 will also be supported). The sensor is 12MP and supports 10-bit colour and HDR. We plan to offer superior image stabilization and low light performance compared to other products in its class.
Q: What is Audio Quality like?
A: Waves will have an array of microphones capable of spatial audio recording. In our app we are also looking to support the use of existing wearable microphones from Rhode and DJI while streaming.
Q: Are there speakers/displays? How is feedback provided to the user?
A: Feedback will come from haptics in the temples that respond to button presses to record as well as battery swaps. Power status and operating mode will be indicated to the user with an internal LED facing them. There are no speakers or displays. This is essential to keep weight down and preserve the look of all day eyewear.
Q: I want to shoot vertically, I'm worried the quality will be too low for social media. How do you plan on resolving this?
A: Our app will offer a bespoke solution that upscales the video to a higher resolution better suited for your chosen platform.
Q: Will I really be able to check live chat on my apple watch?
A: Yes :)
Q: What operating systems are supported for the app?
A: iOS is our priority. We will expand to Android, macOS and Windows shortly after.
Q: How does clipping work?
A: Clipping lets you save the past minute of what you just saw without you needing to record beforehand.
Q: Can I record videos normally instead of clipping? How long can they record for?
A: Yes you do not need to rely on clipping to record videos, we are aiming to allow recording of videos up to 10 minutes long.
Q: What livestreaming platforms are supported?
A: Twitch, Kick, Youtube, Tiktok, IG, Facebook, X, and any other streaming service that supports RTMP.
Q: How is livestreaming going to work?
A: Waves will allow you to stream all day to any RTMP server. This means you can go live on pretty much all major live streaming platforms, as well as your own custom server if you are a developer. Live Streaming will be capped to 1080p, and we may employ techniques like dynamic resolution over networks with low bandwidth. We are looking into supporting H264/HEVC encoding, but may also offer solutions like MJPEG for users who require lower latency. Choice of encoding and RTMP destination will be configurable in our app on mobile and desktop.
Q: Do I need a separate connection to stream?
A: Yes, either a mobile hotspot or persistent WiFi connection is required for streaming.
Q: Does the price of this product include tariffs?
A: No, we are working on building a supply chain that is tariff resistant. But if tariffs do apply the added cost will be passed down to the customer.
Q: When will the full-price preorders go live?
A: September.
Q: When will the finished product be shipped?
A: We are aiming for Q1 2026 for mass production of the final product. Please note this is an aggressive and ambitious timeline for a new hardware product and this may be subject to delays.
